the development brief

The Next Stage - an update on Broadmeadow

Feedback from a Development Brief for Broadmeadow, which explored various employment scenarios for the site, is currently being collated by JG Land & Estates. The Development Brief investigates the site’s potential to be developed for employment purposes and was prepared in accordance with planning policy and in direct response to the comments made by the Secretary of State.

John Jowitt, Planning Director, JG Land & Estates comments;

We would like to thank the many local residents, groups and organisations who have taken the time to send in their comments to the Development Brief.  This is clearly a site of vital importance to those living nearby and from the views received it is clear that many of them are naturally concerned about the implications of a purely industrial development.

“This document was published following the negative decision towards our previous planning application in 2007 for a mixed use development, which included houses, a local centre, a school and employment uses.  As the owner of this important brownfield site, we are committed to finding a viable future for Broadmeadow and were therefore keen to progress the approach promoted by the Secretary of State in her appeal decision and determine the site’s suitability for industrial/storage development.

“It is unusual to receive such a high level of response to this type of document, which after all, is not a planning application and purely seeks to explore potential options.  It is very clear that local residents want their voices heard and we are very encouraged by the level of public support which Broadmeadow continues to receive.  The future of this site is of vital importance to Babergh District Council, Ipswich Borough Council and most importantly, the residents of the Parish of Sproughton and it is in all our interests to achieve a sustainable future for this site.”
